Waterview Pointe Walks to End Alzheimer’s
August 22, 2024
Unfortunately, almost 7 million Americans are currently living with Alzheimer’s Disease across the United States and 55 million in the world. The number of individuals being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s or dementia has doubled over the last 20 years. Alzheimer’s not only affects the individual but the family and caregivers as well.
At Waterview Pointe, Alzheimer’s and dementia are something that we are very familiar with, especially in our Memory Care Unit. It is something that we hold near and dear to our hearts as we support the residents and family members through the progression of the disease. We are active participants in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s, a fundraising organization that assists with raising awareness and funding for Alzheimer’s research. Waterview will have various fundraisers until the walk itself. These include a Penny War, breakfast for staff, bake sales, and t-shirt sales.
The Walk to End Alzheimer’s will be held on September 21, 2024, at Tomlinson Park in Williamstown, WV. Each individual in the walk will receive a Promise Garden Flower. Each color represents a different connection to the disease. Purple represents having lost someone to Alzheimer’s Disease. Yellow means you are currently caring for or supporting an individual with Alzheimer’s. Blue represents living with Alzheimer’s. Finally, orange is for all those who are a support for the cause and the fight to end Alzheimer’s.
Alzheimer’s Disease is slow-moving most of the time, but it is always fatal. With the efforts and support from organizations such as The Walk to End Alzheimer’s, we are hopeful that there will be a cure one day. If you would like to donate to the Waterview Pointe team, you can do so at the link below. The funds collected are donated to the Alzheimer’s Association for continued support in their research to find a cure.
