Rehabilitation Success Story - William Cassidy
July 1, 2021
William (Bill) Cassady is a long-term resident that came to live with us from another long-term care facility. We have had the pleasure of treating Bill in therapy a couple of times since he came to live with us, but recently he stood out as a success story with his rehabilitation after a hospital stay due to various medical issues. He first required a 2 person maximum assist for supine to sit, sit to stand, standing balance, dressing, and toileting. He was also non-ambulatory when he first came back from the hospital.
After working with both physical and occupational therapy he is now able to transfer with sit to stand, stand pivot from chair to chair with minimal to contact guard assist of one with cues for safety and technique. He can participate more with dressing and ADLs. He is able to ambulate up to 30 feet with contact guard assist, wearing oxygen, using a front wheeled walker with minimal cues and direction given. He is now excited to get up in his wheelchair and propel himself around the facility to visit staff and other residents. He is also going to the dining room to be social, to eat his meals, and participate in activities.
We are very proud of Bill and how hard he has worked to get well and get back to a more functional lifestyle after a medical decline. He enjoyed working with PTA, Jenna Harris, and COTA, Crissy Parsons.
