Paws and Claws Encounters
August 4, 2022
It was a beautiful day for some unique animals to travel from Paws and Claws Encounters to Waterview Pointe to visit our residents. Our residents have been anxiously waiting for this visit for quite some time, and it was well worth the wait!
Paws and Claws brought in several unique animals for our residents to observe, learn about and even touch or hold. They saw a kangaroo, porcupine, chinchilla, armadillo and pigs. It’s not every day that you get the opportunity to hold a baby kangaroo, and this was by far our residents' favorite part about the experience! The baby kangaroo stayed in a homemade pouch, as we learned how they stay in their mother’s pouch for up to a year. Another favorite was watching a porcupine eat yogurt off of a plastic spoon. Residents watched the porcupine as we learned about the 30,000 plus quills it has under its fur!
We want to extend a big thank you to Amedisys Hospice and Home Health for working with Charlie in our Activities Department to make this happen. It brought so much laughter, joy and smiles to our residents! They have not experienced anything like this before, and it made our time together extra special for them.
It is so important for us, as a long-term care facility, to do fun activities like this for our residents that enhance their quality of life by getting them out of their rooms for some adventure and providing them with something that brings them joy. We plan activities every day here at Waterview Pointe and try to do something more out of the ordinary like this at least once a month. Our staff and some family members also joined in on the fun with the animal encounters. Family members are always welcome to attend outings and activities!
